Luxen Agrivoltaics is an innovative approach that seeks to maximize land use by allowing for the co-existence of both energy and food production, providing in return not only economic benefits to farmers, but also operational and environmental sustainability. Luxen offers commercial as well as specially designed green agrivoltaics.
By installing Luxen’s commercial solar panels on farms and barns, small factories and refrigerated stores, and warehouses, farmers can make optimal use of existing structures and available space without requiring additional land and, in particular, maximize their space-limited production facilities.
By generating own electricity, reliance on the grid is significantly reduced as well as the electricity bills. Solar panels provide a stable power supply and reduce energy costs for irrigation, ventilation, lighting and other needs.
When it comes to combining growing crop and solar energy production, the same piece of land can produce both food and electricity, absolutely maximizing its utility. Luxen innovative green agrivoltaics are specifically designed for greenhouses and open fields, providing at the same time the light needed for crop growth as well as absorbing the light for photovoltaic power generation. In practical terms, such dual production with Luxen N-Type Agrivoltaics on 1 hectare of land can accommodate approximately 1.45MW of total installed capacity.
The green agrivoltaics not only has the ability to generate electricity, but also provides a suitable microclimate for crops, edible fungi and livestock breeding. As solar cells will cause a certain amount of light shading, each greenhouse can be designed with different installed capacity based on the light needs of different crops to meet the optimal needs of plant photosynthesis.
The partial shadowing will reduce the heat stress on plants, lower the evaporation, and therefore the need for irrigation. In such way more pleasant living conditions for plants are achieved and better yields. This can be especially advantageous in hot and arid regions where excessive heat and water scarcity are major challenges.
In the same manner, animals have more favorable breeding and grazing conditions, as commercial solar panels provide a cooling effect.
Agrivoltaic systems can reduce the temperature of solar panels through the cooling effect of evapotranspiration from the plants below, potentially increasing the efficiency of the solar panels. This can lead to higher energy yields compared to panels installed in open fields without vegetation.
The agrivoltaics system is green and environmentally friendly. Utilizing solar energy reduces the carbon footprint of the production facility, contributing to not only operational but environmental sustainability as well with far reaching effects beyond the individual farm. On the other hand, farmers can benefit from an additional revenue stream by leasing their land for solar panel installation or directly investing in solar energy production. This diversification may especially be favorable during periods of poor crop yields due to adverse weather conditions.
Luxen Agrivoltaics represents a promising solution to the growing demands for both renewable energy and sustainable food production. Compared to conventional modules, our N-Type Series is designed exclusively with A-grade material providing not only more electricity generation per square meter of installed panel area, but also a longer panel lifespan, while ensuring consistent energy production over many years. Our solar panels have passed the rigorous certification by TUV accreditation agencies, and are supported by world-class insurance groups such as CHUBB, PICC and Lloyd’s Ariel Re Insurance.
